The Results Of Reasoning

The SUN story is surrounded by controversy, from disputes over the band name, product releases and chart exclusion, to their legendary wild, erotic stage shows, drug references and audio research concepts. SUN's influence on today's club, trance and techno artists has reached far deeper than most people realise!

A SUN Belly Dancer
SUN have often been regarded as the forerunners of modern Techno, Ambient and Trance music. Their first single, a techno cover of the Stone's track 'We Love You' was released back in 1990 and the 12" remix was immediately picked up by Rave DJs on the UK orbital and warehouse circuits as THE anthem for 'The Summer of Love'. DJ remixer Steve Proctor also reworked the track with 'The Jazz Butcher' but their attempt to copy and release an identical sounding version led to much confusion at the radio stations and sadly, both versions were dropped from radio playlists.

Undaunted by this setback, SUN recorded an EP cunningly titled 'The Results Of Reasoning' which quickly gained placings in the DJ dance charts and was soon heralded as 'The New Sound Of London'. SUN embarked on a hectic schedule of live appearances at raves and parties around the UK and formulated a unique concept for their stage show which included MCs, rappers, belly dancers, DJs, fire-eaters and outstanding lazer effects. The whole show was devised as a total experience and billed as 'The SUN Machine', attracting thousands of ravers wherever they appeared.

'The Other half of SUN'
Just as things seemed to be going well for the band, they were thwarted yet again when the UK chart compilers 'Gallup' withdraw the `Results Of Reasoning' EP from the UK singles charts because it contained 5 titles instead of the 4 which were permitted for the record to be classed as a 'single' (the band had decided to include an additional remixed version of 'Vision' at the last minute). Although extremely disappointed by Gallup's decision to exclude the single, the band were not disheartened and began working on an entirely new form of Techno music which they called 'Trance'.

In 1992 SUN released their debut album 'HYPNOTIKI' on Flat's U4Ria label and excellent reviews followed. The Melody Maker wrote: "a rainbow rave album.. a highlight of even the best dance compilation.. an experiment involving harpsichords, rabid dogs and a tank of water.. pure trips.. a hardcore frenzy.."
The album was released in Europe on the FLAT label and in the U.S. through 'Restless Records' where top re-mixer and club DJ 'Doc Martin' did a special re-mix of 'We Love You'
(included on the U.S. version only). The album was heralded as a breakthrough in low budget recording techniques and set the standard by which all modern techno, trance and jungle music is still judged today!
