COTLAND hosts many annual arts festivals and special events, including the Edinburgh International Festival, the largest arts festival in the world, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the International Mayfest Arts Festival in Glasgow. Gaelic culture is celebrated with The National Gaelic Mod of music and poetry, along with several folk festivals and Highland Games held at various venues throughout Scotland. The Hogmanay Festival at New Year in Edinburgh is now established as a major event and in 1999 Glasgow will be celebrating its designation as City of Architecture and Design.
